Hagerstown is in western Maryland, nearly midway between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. It is 32 miles from Gettysburg and less than 100 miles from Baltimore, MD, Washington DC, and Lancaster, PA.
Hagerstown’s Civil War sites attract history buffs and families as well. Among the area’s historic sites are: the Antietam National Battlefield and Antietam National Cemetery Museum, both in Sharpsburg; Boonesborough Museum of History; Gathland State Park Museum, Boonsboro; and the Hagerstown Aviation Museum.
The area is also rich in national, state, and local parks. Hiking, biking, and whitewater-rafting abound. There are golf courses, upscale and outlet shopping, fine dining, museums, and theaters. Summer and fall are event-filled. For a calendar of events, check out the Hagerstown Convention Visitors Bureau.
